Oh the weather outside is….
NOT that serious yet, but it’s definitely time to find your sweaters and check and see if your winter coat needs updating.
Holiday planning is now in full swing, whether you are the early Christmas shopper, the friends-giving party host or hostess, the escapee planning the tropical getaway- the time has come to put those plans into action.
On the food front -the grocery stores have already begun stocking boxed stuffings, nut mixes, and all things pumpkin pie and peppermint mocha. I always take that as a hint- if I am cooking this year for the holidays, those sights have triggered me and it is totally time to start slowly purchasing double so that there is no need to panic shop the week of.
As a professional chef here is a list of things I buy extra of starting in October and freeze/ store away for Thanksgiving and Christmas, before the prices start to climb after Halloween.
- stock/boullion- you need stock for juicy roasted meats, tasty vegetables, sauces and soups.
- hard squash- butternut, acorn, and pumpkins.
- canned goods- canned pumpkin, beans, cranberry sauces,
- meat, especially if you aren’t eating turkey
- aluminum products
- plastic wrap
- ziploc bags, plastic utensils, napkins
- pasta/ rice
- butter
- spices
- drinks
- frozen veggies
- box cake mixes/puddings/nuts/dried fruit
I hope this list is helpful! Holiday planning is done to make sure that you, as the family planner actually has fun!
