It’s that time of the year! Outside drinks, blend into giggle filled evenings. In the hot summer months, most people prefer cocktails and frozen drinks (understandable). If you’re like me and headed to dinner parties, birthdays and other celebrations- this short post will help dazzle friends with your sophisticated wine knowledge!
Chef Mayari’s favorite summer white wines
- White Bordeaux– this is a sophisticated blend of sauvignon blanc, semillon, ugni blanc (congnac’s parents) and muscadell. A yummy blend that has notes of honey dew melon, peaches, plums and fresh apricot. The wine pairs beautifully with basil, lemon, and lime-making this my number 1 summer pick.
- Albarino– coming from both Portugal and Spain is a delicious white wine who is named after the grape itself! It has flavors of honey suckle and melon. It has a medium body and medium sweetness. Pairs wonderfully with pork, chicken, fish and vegetables dishes-this a go to summer staple!

- Vinho Verde– also made from the albarino grape but, grown in Portugal. this is light bodied and refreshingly sweet sparking wine! Usually this wine is pretty inexpensive some cases going for as little as $25. Don’t let the low price fool you-this is an exceptional wine that in my opinion is the best sparkling wine for the season. Needing no flavor syrups or fruits this is sparkling wine of choice in the summer.
- Bellini– a venetian cocktail made of prosecco and peach puree. This is a tradtional Italian cocktail that is sure to make everyone happy this summer. Perfect to sip on or pair with pretty much all dishes except a creamy pasta or rich dish.
